There is a Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer who hold every swim record at Coast Guard Academy, his name is Ben Randall. He is the best of the best, he swims in the sea as well as when he swims in the pool to rescue many human. He has a wife, but his wife is want to divorced with him because she doesn't like Ben works as a coast guard rescue swimmer. One day, Ben's office get an info that there's an incident at the sea. Ben and his rescue team get a mission to save some people in that incident at the sea. He fail to save the people and even his best buddy one of his crew. Ben feels very guilty. Night by night he always get a nightmare, he can't forgive himself because in his opinion, his best friend was dead because of his fault. Everytime he see the red light, he will always remember the day when he can't rescue anyone. After that incident, Captain of the coast guard rescue swimmer assigned him to teach at the Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers School. Although he deny initially.
He doesn't want any other men to die during a rescue, so he uses his own training methods that put the new recuits through the thoughest test they will ever encounter during a mission. After drastically reducing the number of recruits, Ben focuses on one of his most talented recruits and former high school state swimming champion, Jake Fischer. Jake wanna break every single one of Ben's Coast Guard records, and achieves feats that impress all. After lengthy confrontations with Jake, Ben eventually discovers Jake joined the Coast Guard because he was the only survivor in a car accident that killed his high school swimming buddies, where he was the designated driver. The accident was ruled not his fault, but he still feels compelled to serve others. With Ben's training and Jake's dedication, Jake becomes the best of the best and Ben retires as. Jake and the other recruits graduated from Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer School and they've official become a coast guard rescue swimmer.
Jake is attending the sea in Alaska, and his friend in other country. However, in one mission, Jake have saved a few of people on the ship but there's one person who still trapped in the cabin. When Jake succeed to save the caiptain suddenly a big wave come and the things there hit the captain until the captain is can't safe. And unfortunately Jake is trapped in the cabin with captain's body. Helicopter is forced to abandon him due to a lack of fuel. Ben is only a person available who has any rescue swimming experience, so he comes out of retirement to rescue Jake. Jake is trapped inside the cabin, debris covering the door and quickly running out of air. Ben rescues Jake and attaches themselves to Ben's line, to be pulled up to the helicopter. However, they've reached height in excess of 25 metres, the rope starts to fray and almost breaks when Ben decides to cut himself loose from the rope, much to Jake's devastation. Whereas Ben has said that if we jump from the highness over than 25 metres we wouldn't safe. Ben's body never occured. In Ben's honor, Jake continues to his rescue swimming duties. At the end, Jake rescues a man who swore he saw another rescuer holding onto his hand, Jake speculates it was Ben, now the Guardian of the sea.
